The Metagenomic Micro-Grant program is designed to support researchers worldwide in advancing metagenomics research, including pathogen identification, microbiome, transplant research, public health, and other infectious disease studies. The Micronbrane Medical initiative provides critical resources to facilitate high-impact research in these fields.

The Micro-Grant provides a total of $5000 (non-cash value) towards host depletion, DNA extraction, library prep kits and sequencing (if no sequencer is available) for up to 48 samples. To promote you and your research the award also may include travel/accommodations at a pre-approved conference or the Micronbrane Medical Symposium, where your research will be presented.

Application Timeline

November (TBD) — Presentation: At an academic conference and a Metagenomics Micro-Webinar published on the Micronbrane Medical website.

Sequencing costs to be determined and negotiated if needed. Micronbrane Medical will either cover sequencing costs and/or provide travel/accommodations to a conference where the research abstract is accepted.

Evaluation Criteria

Submissions will be reviewed and voted on by Micronbrane Medical scientists, who will evaluate projects based on:

Potential contribution to microbiology/ infectious disease research

Depth of need for assistance

Urgency of the research

Eligibility and Requirements

Applicants must be affiliated with an accredited research institution.
Proposals must be complete, written in English, and represent original research.
Awardees agree to acknowledge and cite the Micro-Grant and the Micronbrane Medical products used in their research.
Awardees should be willing to share research summaries with the broader scientific community.
Awardees agree to share their research on social media platforms. If you are selected we will ask for a headshot for promotions on our social platforms.

Micro-Grant Redemption Period

Awardees must accept by April 22, 2025
Research must be completed roughly by July 31, 2025.
All awarded resources must be utilized by Dec 31, 2025.
The Micro-Grant has no cash value and cannot be transferred or modified.

Liability and Compliance

Micronbrane Medical is not responsible for any research outcomes, findings, or conclusions derived from the Micro-Grant.
Micronbrane Medical is not liable for any emotional distress resulting from not being selected.
Recipients must comply with all institutional and legal regulations.

Modification and Termination

Micronbrane Medical reserves the right to modify or withdraw the Micro-Grant at its discretion.
Participation in the Micro-Grant implies acceptance of all terms without modification.
